On Flower Power. The Role of the Vase in Arts, Crafts and Design

Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea

Roma (Italy), July 16th/September 29th, 2019

Pierluigi Piu is among designers and artists invited to take part in the exhibition curated by Catalan designer Martì Guixé, "On Flower Power. The role of the Vase in Arts, Crafts and Design". With such exposition the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea of Rome radically explores, from a quite unconventional viewpoint, the hybrid territory where arts, crafts and design talk together. This exhibition represents for the Galleria Nazionale the very first opportunity of confrontation with these languages in relation to contemporary art and focuses on an apparently neutral object: the flower vase. Such recurring archetypal object becomes an ideal medium for a narration interlacing history of art, history of applied arts and history of design. On show are over eighty works re-interpreting tradition and iconography of the vase through design, photography, sculpture and painting, by:
Filippo De Pisis, Giorgio Morandi, Martín Azua, Simone Bergantini, Chiara Bettazzi, Marina Bolla, Chiara Camoni, Coudre, Antoni Cumella i Serret, Sabine Delafon, Nicolaj Diulgheroff, Elena El Asmar, Haris Epaminonda, Nicola Filia, Marguerite Friedländer-Wildenhain, Nancy Graves, Kodai Iwamoto, Hella Jongerius, Markus Kayser, Inga Knölke, Oliver Laric, Enzo Mari, Ursula Mayer, Javier Mariscal, Alessandro Mendini, Paolo Meoni, Marc Monzó, Takashi Murakami, Luigi Ontani, Gaetano Pesce, Pierluigi Piu, Tobias Rehberger, André Ricard i Sala, Aurora Sander, Trinci, Franz West,
